Virginia will hold its annual three-day sales tax holiday this weekend, starting Friday, Aug 2 at 12:01 AM and ending Sunday, Aug 4 at 11:59 PM.
During those three days, Virginia consumers will be able to buy qualifying school supplies, clothing, footwear, hurricane and emergency preparedness items, and Energy Star™ and WaterSense™ products without paying sales tax.
What items are eligible?
School supplies
Qualified school supplies that cost $20 or less per item are eligible for the sales tax holiday. The list of qualified supplies includes book bags, binders, calculators, composition books, notebooks, pencils and pens, rulers and scissors. Clothing and footwear
Shirts, jeans, dresses, bathing suits, shorts, and slippers that cost $100 or less per item are just some of the items eligible for purchase without sales tax. A full list of qualified clothing and footwear can be found here.
Hurricane and emergency preparedness products
Portable generators or inverter power cables costing $1,000 or less per item, gas-powered chainsaws costing $350 or less per item, and portable radios costing $60 or less per item are just a few of the more than two dozen emergency-related items eligible for the sales tax holiday.
Energy Star™ and WaterSense™ products
Energy Star or WaterSense items that cost $2,500 or less and are being purchased for noncommercial or personal use are eligible will be exempt from sales tax this weekend.
So if you need an Energy Star air conditioner, refrigerator or dishwasher, or a WaterSense showerhead or toilet, you’re in luck.
