Residents of southwest Virginia will have the opportunity to receive free medical care later this month, the Bristol Herald-Courier reports.

The Health Wagon, a nonprofit mobile medical clinic that provides health care to under-served individuals in Appalachia, will return to the Wise County Fairgrounds later this month as part of a partnership with the U.S. Department of Defense.

The DoD will host its Innovative Readiness Training program, a military training program the week of August 19-26, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day, and during the event, residents will have the chance to receive free medical care, including eye exams, dental fillings, extractions, general health care and veterinary services such as spaying and neutering.

The Health Wagon partnered with the IRT program in 2017 to provide more than 3,000 health care services over the course of nine days, the Herald-Courier reports.

The IRT program has set aside two days specifically for individuals with disabilities, Aug. 22 and Aug. 26, by appointment only. To schedule an appointment on a disability day, you can call the Health Wagon at 276-328-8850.
