Voter registration deadline for June 11 primaries is Monday, May 20

It may feel like you just voted in the 2018 elections, but that was six whole months ago and Virginia has elections in just three weeks.

On June 11, Virginians in many areas of the state will vote in primary elections to decide which Democratic and Republican candidates for the General Assembly will appear on the ballot for the November 5 general election.

In order to vote, residents must be registered by this Monday, May 20.

You can check if you’re already registered to vote here, and if you’re not, you can find details on how to register to vote on the Virginia Department of Elections website.

If you cannot vote on election day for one of these reasons, you can ask the Registrar to mail you an absentee ballot. The deadline to request an absentee ballot is Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. The deadline to vote in-person absentee is Saturday, June 8, 2019.

Primaries are occurring all across the state, from suburban Richmond to Southwestern Virginia and from Virginia Beach to Northern Virginia

There are 11 primaries for Democratic state Senate races and five for Republican races. There are 12 Democratic primaries for House of Delegate candidates and seven for Republicans. There are also several local elections, including in Henrico, Chesterfield and Hanover counties.

Virginia’s one of only four states with state legislative elections in 2019, and all 140 seats in the General Assembly will be up for grabs on November 5.
