Speaking to the New York Times, he said, “It was a mediocre job, but it’s probably one of the highest-paying jobs in this area,” Shaw reportedly earned about $17 an hour during his time at the plant.
The outbreak has not only impacted Jarratt but also neighboring communities. Some plant workers commute from as far as Gaston, North Carolina, about a 30-minute drive south.
