Farmers markets are a great source to eat with the season while supporting local farmers, bakers and artisans. National Farmers Week is upon us, Aug. 2-8. There are plenty of farmers markets in the Tri City area that offer fresh, local food and support for local economies.
We compiled a list of markets with handcrafted and locally grown products.
Petersburg farmers markets
Market at PPL
Shoppers may purchase fresh local produce, meat, dairy, eggs, honey and locally made foods at the Market at PPL, from noon to 6 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, on the main floor of the Petersburg Public Library at 201 W. Washington St. Follow Market at PPL on Facebook.
River Street Market
The River Street Market offers fresh veggies and other nutritional items year-round in Petersburg’s historic Old Towne at 30 River St. It is a blend of arts, produce and culture. Artisans and crafters from surrounding cities and counties participate.

Farm Swap at Agri Supply
A seasonal farm swap is hosted by Agri Supply in Petersburg on the second Saturday of each month, April to October. It features small local farmers and business owners.
Shoppers may see a variety of items for swap or sale like chickens, roosters, goats, ducks, sheep, peacocks, rabbits, puppies, kittens, pigs, quail, hatching eggs, local meat, and homemade goods like pickles, sourdough, seasonings, cake flights, puppy chow and jams.
Weather-permitting, the final swaps of the season are from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 8, Sept. 12 and Oct. 10.
The farm swap is set up along Agri Supply’s parking lot at 3001 N. Normandy Dr. in Petersburg. If you are interested in being a vendor or for more information, call 804-861-9000. Follow Agri Supply events on Facebook to see what vendors are planning on having available at the farm swaps.

Hopewell Farmers Market
During the rest of the season, visit the Hopewell Farmers Market in Downtown Hopewell on Thursdays through Nov. 19. Enjoy great community and fresh, healthy food. They often host live music, food trucks, activities for kids and a lineup of vendors who offer produce, eggs, meat, honey, baked goods, plants, condiments and more.
The market has a new location, just one block away, at Hopewell Street, between East Broadway and East Cawson. The hours are 5-7 p.m. On market event days, it is extended until 8 p.m.

Prince George Farmers Market
The Prince George Farmers Market operates a producer-grower farmers market and is dedicated to building a sustainable, regional food shed and educating people about the benefits of sustainable agriculture, according to princegeorgecountyva.gov.
The market, adjacent to the Prince George Library, emphasizes the direct connection between local food choices and the quality and health of the environment and daily lives. Prince George County supports farmers/growers who cultivate the land using sustainable agricultural practices or raise livestock using humane and sustainable practices.
The 2026 market season, sponsored by Randolph Market, CMA Colonial Honda and Prince George Farm Bureau, Inc., runs through October. Every Saturday, it is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 6380 Scott Memorial Park Road in Prince George. A special holiday market will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 21.

McKenney Farmers Market
Purchase local produce and locally made products at the McKenney Farmers Market from 3 to 6 p.m. on Fridays.
The mission of the market is to provide access to locally Virginia grown and produced products and to create a sense of community. The goals mentioned at dinwiddieva.us are plentiful:
- Increase access to fresh, locally produced, nourishing and safe foods for all people.
- Encourage, support and promote the entrepreneurial efforts of local, independent and small-scale farmers, local growers and local artisans seeking to sell their products/produce directly to consumers.
- Create an opportunity for people to meet, eat and share stories, recipes and knowledge in a place dedicated to the cultivation of local products and talents.
- Strive to create an atmosphere that serves not only the market but contributes to Dinwiddie County’s prosperous rural areas, while promoting a sense of community.

Colonial Heights Farmers Market
The Colonial Heights Farmers Market features locally grown produce, grass-fed meats, plants, pastured eggs, canned and baked goods, honey, handcrafted soap and more.

Chester Village Farmers Market
The market in the field across from the Chester Library is open seasonally from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. Marketgoers may find items like fresh fruit and veggies, plants, sourdough, cookies, jams, jewelry, woodcrafts, artwork, handmade clothing and much more.

Chesterfield County Farmers Market
The 2026 season of the Chesterfield County Farmers Market is going strong. A variety of vendors are ready to hook shoppers up with homegrown veggies and fruits, baked treats, eggs, breads, plants, honey, meats, homemade crafts and more.
It is open 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays through Sept. 30. The weekday market is located at 6701 Mimms Loop in Chesterfield. Visit Chesterfield County Farmers Market on Facebook for weekly updates and vendor lists. Food trucks are present for those shopping during a work lunch break.
Dewitt Market
The Dewitt Market is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Shoppers can browse through an assortment of fresh produce, plants, canned goods and more. It is located at 17000 Boydton Plank Road in Dewitt.
