Rep. Don Beyer took to the House floor to warn about the human cost of the Trump administration’s dismantling of USAID. He pointed to research projecting millions of additional preventable deaths if foreign-aid cuts continue. A 2025 study published in The Lancet projected that the cuts could result in more than 14 million additional deaths by 2030, including about 4.5 million children under 5, if the reductions remain in place. The research also estimated that USAID-supported programs helped prevent more than 91 million deaths between 2001 and 2021.
