If you were at Terminal A in Dulles International Airport on Sunday June 2 between 5:30 and 8:30 p.m., you might have been exposed to measles.
Northern Virginia health districts are informing people who were at several locations on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday that they may have been exposed to a measles-infected child.
According to the Washington Post, Alison Ansher, health director for the Prince William Health District, said the case was not related to the ongoing measles outbreak around the United States. Ansher said the child had left the U.S., contracted the contagious disease, and then returned home.
Health officials released a statement on Thursday saying that out of an abundance of caution, they are mounting a coordinated effort to identify anyone who might have been exposed to the infected child.
The dates, times and locations of possible exposure sites are below:
- Dulles International Airport in Terminal A and Baggage Claim level on Sunday, June 2, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
- Novant Health UVA Health System Haymarket Medical Center, 15225 Heathcote Boulevard, Haymarket, VA in the emergency department on Sunday, June 2 at 11 p.m. through early Monday, June 3 at 4:30 a.m.
- Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, 3600 Joseph Siewick Drive, Fairfax, VA in the emergency department, including the waiting area, on Tuesday, June 4 from 3 to 5:30 p.m.
Health department officials are urging anyone who was at one of the above locations at the specified times to confirm they’ve been vaccinated for measles. If they haven’t, these individuals may be at risk of getting measles and should contact their local health care provider immediately.
