State Senator Mamie Locke turned 65 on Tuesday and spent her birthday in the hospital after being hit by a car.
There are plenty of worst birthday ever stories out there, but this might top the list.
“I was hit by a car I’m told,” Locke wrote on Facebook on Wednesday. She underwent surgery at Riverside Regional Medical Center and told her Facebook followers she’d be out for roughly three months.
“According to the surgeon, who is great, on a scale of 0-10, my injury is a 9. I am officially the bionic woman,” Locke said.
Locke represents the 2nd State District, which includes most of Hampton and parts of Newport News, Portsmouth, and York County, and was first elected to the senate as a Democrat in 2004.
During her time in the state senate, Locke has crafted legislation to try and curb evictions among low-income Virginians and to authorize unemployment benefits for military spouses. She has also spoken out against youth prisons and the gun lobby.
The Dogwood wishes our Bionic Senator Locke a happy birthday and a speedy recovery.
