Better pay for teachers, 46 additional counselors for schools, and more psychologists and social workers. All of the above are included in the new $1.5 billion Prince William County School Board budget for fiscal year 2020, which passed unanimously on Wednesday.
WhThe non-partisan board also approved raises for themselves. After 19 years without a raise, the seven board members’ pay will more than double from $12,000 a year to $26,520 a year, and the chair of the board’s salary will jump from $13,100 a year to $28,520 per year.
Two school board members, Gil Trenum (Gainesville) and Justin Wilk (Potomac), acknowledged that despite voting for the budget, they thought their pay increases should have been smaller.
The budget will be presented to the Board of County Supervisors for Approval on April 2 and supervisors are expected to approve the county budget on April 30.
