It’s that time again. That’s right, we’ve got another Dogwood Dog of the Week. This week, we’re delighted to feature a 14-month old plott/hound lab mix named Dumpling.
Yes, his name is Dumpling and yes he’s absolutely amazing and we love him and there are more photos of him at the end of this article, which means you should absolutely read every last word and then bask in the glory that is Dumpling.
Dumpling currently resides at the Wolf Trap Animal Rescue, and here’s what they had to say about him:
This sweet boy loves every person and dog he meets, regardless of their age or size.
Dumpling is a goofy, happy-go-lucky boy who enjoys romping in the back yard with human and fur friends, going for runs and hikes, and being the little spoon while cuddling on the couch.
He’s a smart boy who is not only potty trained and crate trained, but a dog that truly loves car rides and knows commands such as “sit,” “off,” “stay,” and “paw.” Growing up, Dumping was around children and cats and did great with both–he enjoys playing fetch with children and ignores the cats.
As a puppy, Dumping was not exposed to the world as much as a normal puppy is. As a result, Dumpling can sometimes be overwhelmed when meeting a new pack (3 or more) of dogs and tends to tuck his tail and get nervous–he does not lash out, but will try to walk away if he is on a leash.
Dumpling loves meeting one or two dogs at once and will be best friends with them almost instantly, but a place like a dog park can be too overwhelming.
Like most dogs, Dumpling likes to explore and understand the environment and people around him before jumping right into life. When in a new home, Dumpling takes a few days (3 days is typical) to completely warm up and trust those around him before showing his true personality. This adjustment period does not mean he is hiding under your kitchen table or that he shuts down. Instead, Dumpling will just need a few extra treats and a little encouragement to make him feel loved and safe.
Dumping is looking for his forever home and has been evaluated by a dog trainer who is willing to speak with potential adopters about his personality and behavior to ensure it is a good fit. And if you’re still not sure about whether Dumpling is the dog for you, first of all, OF COURSE HE IS, and second of all, here are some more photos of him to change your mind.
