In Virginia, higher education workers are banned from collective bargaining, but they are fighting to change that. At an event in Woodbridge on Oct. 3, Anna Engelhardt shared why she and her fellow graduate student workers at George Mason University want the right to collectively bargain. The event was organized by a coalition of unions that includes the Virginia chapter of the American Association of University Professors. Most higher education workers were excluded from legislation earlier this year that would have expanded public-sector collective bargaining rights. Workers like Engelhardt hope they will be included in legislation expected in the 2027 legislative session. Save this post.
