Retired Navy Commander rips Trump for dismissing conditions aboard USS Abraham Lincoln

Former Virginia Rep. Elaine Luria, a retired Navy commander, criticized President Donald Trump’s response to concerns about sailors aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln. The ship left San Diego in November 2025 and has spent more than 250 days deployed, including a modern-record stretch of more than 200 consecutive days at sea. Sailors and their families have reported shortages of basic supplies, plumbing and water problems, and mounting mental health concerns. Trump responded to questions about the deployment by saying it had been “not nearly long enough,” while Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has disputed reports that conditions aboard the ship are deteriorating.
