Virginia farmer Joel Salatin says Trump’s beef plan risks undercutting American ranchers just as many are finally getting prices that make raising cattle profitable. Speaking with Rep. Thomas Massie at Polyface Farm, Salatin argued that bringing in cheaper foreign beef could push domestic producers back into the red. He also blasted a farm policy system he says props up some commodities with subsidies while asking cattle producers to compete with imported meat. Massie pressed the same contradiction: if the goal is to help U.S. ranchers, why make it easier for below-market beef to enter the country?
