I can’t tell you for sure if what I saw as a kid was real or fake, but I remember it vividly. All of us grandkids—along with our parents—went over to Grandma and Grandpa’s house hours before sunrise when I was about 7 years old. There was a meteor shower in the astronomical forecast, and we were ready to watch.
I remember sitting in their side yard and looking up at the dark sky. We saw a few meteorites streak across the black canvas, and that was cool. But then, I looked to my right. By the cherry tree, I “saw” a huge fireball the size of a beachball—and to make matters even stranger, it vanished almost as soon as it appeared.
We went inside at sunrise for some hot chocolate, but I kept thinking about what I’d witnessed. As an adult, there are a few explantations I could give, the most obvious being that it was super early, I was sleepy, and I came fully equipped with an incredible imagination. Or… maybe, just maybe we should give the “Ancient Aliens” guy a call. If you enjoy things like this, you’ll love today’s lead story—and I’m so glad you’re here to read it.
