Virginia once again rejected Trump’s extremism in favor of Harris’ pledge to move the country forward.
Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris defeated Republican Donald Trump in Virginia.
Harris won Virginia with 51.50% of the votes compared with Trump’s 46.35% as of 11:57pm as the state again rejected Trump’s extremism despite him holding a rally here over the weekend. The Associated Press called the race for Harris at 11:42 pm.
Virginia backed Biden in 2020 by 10 points over Trump, and in 2016, with US Sen. Tim Kaine as the vice presidential nominee, Virginia backed Hillary Clinton by five points over Trump.
Harris never trailed Trump in the polls in Virginia and her victory affirms the state’s status as a Democratic stronghold in the south, despite a recent history of electing Republicans like Gov. Glenn Youngkin to statewide offices.
As Harris won in Virginia, Kaine also won a third-term in the US Senate.
