A separate incident of a white man driving his vehicle through a crowd of people on Sunday also happened in Seattle.
A Virginia man who appeared to deliberately drive his pickup truck into protesters during a march Sunday is an “admitted leader of the Ku Klux Klan and a propagandist for Confederate ideology,” according to Henrico County Commonwealth Attorney Shannon Taylor.
Harry H. Rogers, 36, has been charged with attempted malicious wounding, felony vandalism, and assault and battery, and is being held without bond, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
The incident comes as hundreds of thousands of people have gathered in cities across the country to demand an end to police brutality and honor the life of Minneapolis resident George Floyd. The 46-year-old died on Memorial Day when a police officer kneeled on his neck for nearly nine minutes, ultimately killing him.
According to Henrico County police, one person was evaluated at the scene on Sunday but appears to have suffered only minor injuries and refused further treatment.
“While I am grateful that the victim’s injuries do not appear to be serious, an attack on peaceful protesters is heinous and despicable and we will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law,” Taylor said, adding that she is investigating possible hate crime charges.
In a news release, Henrico police said witnesses reported that the “vehicle revved their engine and drove through the protesters occupying the roadway.”
Rogers isn’t the only white supremacist in the Commonwealth to drive into protesters in recent memory. James Fields was convicted of first-degree murder after ramming his car into a group of protesters in 2017 in Charlottesville, Va., which resulted in the death of 32-year-old Heather Heyer.
As The Guardian reports, Rogers was also photographed at that same rally.

Meanwhile, authorities in Seattle reported a similar incident of a white man driving into a crowd of protesters Sunday evening.
According to reports from local media, a man barreled his car toward a group of people gathered outside the Seattle Police Department’s East Precinct.
A disturbing video capturing the mayhem shows him getting out of his car and shooting a Black protester. The gunman then proceeds to muscle his way through a disoriented crowd toward police, who arrested him. The victim was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.
