As the calendar ticks towards July, America’s coronavirus crisis is getting worse. The U.S. recorded nearly 40,000 cases on Thursday, setting a new single-day record.

A lot has happened, to put it mildly. In the past six weeks alone, states began to reopen, civil unrest exploded following the police killing of George Floyd, and now, some states have begun to hit pause on reopening as COVID-19 case counts have skyrocketed.
