The Federal Trade Commission recently voted to ban noncompete agreements. Unless business interest groups get their way (they’ve already filed a lawsuit), the new rule will go into effect 120 days after being published in the Federal Register. The ban requires employers to inform current and former employees that they will not enforce noncompete agreements going forward and to discard existing ones.
