Virginia military families were angered by eligibility restrictions for the Virginia Military Survivors & Dependents Education Program last month. This program provides higher education benefits for families of military veterans who were either killed or almost completely disabled while on active duty.
When Virginia lawmakers returned to Richmond for a Special Session on June 26, families were frustrated because lawmakers did not reach a new ruling on the program.
On July 3, Virginia’s House and Senate announced a deal to repeal new limits on the tuition benefits program.
Both chambers will return to Richmond on July 18 to vote on legislation fully repealing restrictions intended to control costs in the program.
