Gravelly Point Park

Address: George Washington Pkwy, Arlington, VA 

Gravelly Point Park is a fun place to explore on a nice, sunny day. You can watch airplanes from the nearby Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport takeoff or land right over your head—the park is just north of the runway! 

The park is also located right beside the Potomac River, near our nation’s capital. You can oftentimes see people engaging in sporting activities, eating picnic lunches, and biking along the trails.

Are you a history buff? Then a trip to Manassas National Battlefield Park might be the perfect stop for you. This historic site is just west of Washington, DC, right off Interstate 66. 

The park is known for its role in the American Civil War. There are over 40 miles of different hiking trails to explore at Manassas National Battlefield Park. 

Great Falls Park

Itching to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city? Great Falls Park is a hidden gem located in NoVA. This park has over 800 acres highlighting natural areas, and it’s just a few minutes away from the nation’s capital.

Mount Vernon Trail

Location: Fairfax County, Alexandria, and Arlington

Mount Vernon Trail is a bicyclist’s dream, covering over 18 miles up and down the Potomac River. In Arlington, you can cycle past the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport before heading straight to Alexandria’s Old Town Waterfront. If you go south from there, you’ll be at George Washington’s Mount Vernon.

Old Town Alexandria Waterfront

The Old Town Alexandria Waterfront offers a combination of shopping, dining options, delicious ice cream, and more—there’s so much to choose from. 

For a relaxing stroll, head down to the waterfront overlooking the Potomac River. You can also take a water taxi to the National Harbor Marina or to the nation’s capital.

Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge

Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge is a boater’s dream with all the different features that this park provides. You can rent a kayak to fish, get something to eat at the cafe, and then head out on one of the many hiking trails.
