Good news is still news! Dogwood’s Wholesome News Hour is a quick refresh from the day’s hard news, celebrating some of the positive things happening throughout Virginia. Today, we’re highlighting three pieces of good news directly from the commonwealth.

Roanoke’s cat cafe purrs with hope

If you’ve ever been to a cat cafe, you usually leave wanting to take every adorable kitten home.

This dream can become a reality at Toebean’s Cat Cafe in Roanoke.

Toebean’s is unique—it acts as a normal cat cafe where people come to relax and play with some adorable feline friends, but the twist is that every cat in the cafe is up for adoption.

The owners of this cafe met because of their shared love for animals and animal welfare. Thus, Toebean’s cat cafe was opened this past December.

Whether you want a new furry friend or are just stopping for a drink, check out Toebean’s Cat Cafe’s website for more information.

How baking gave an immigrant her American Dream

When Claudia Glazier first came to the US from El Salvador, she had an idea of a very sweet American Dream

Now, Glazier has her own bakery in Petersburg—and loyal customers that sell out her bakery week after week.

Glazier asserts that despite all the struggles of living in a new country, she’s grateful for the opportunity to live her version of the American Dream.

An Alexandria marriage makes history

Greg Parks made history in Alexandria when he became the city’s first outwardly LGBTQ+ clerk of the circuit court.

But Parks wasn’t done there, as the first wedding he officiated was also LGBTQ+.

Parks said that he was honored to bring the couple together in matrimony. His historical career is sure to pave the way for many clerks to come.
