If you ask locals where to grab a pie in Virginia Beach, chances are you’ll hear Shorebreak Pizza & Taphouse mentioned within the first breath. Standing strong at 2941 Shore Drive and with a newer location at 2750 Trent Place, this neighborhood spot has been serving up pizza, burgers, the best wings in town, and cold brewskis since 2003. It was opened by Brett Kassir, who also founded other local businesses like Hot Tuna and Peabody’s at the Oceanfront. Over the years, it’s grown into a true institution, blending sports-bar energy with a scratch-kitchen menu that takes its pizza very seriously.
The pizza is the star, and it’s not just nostalgia that keeps people coming back. Shorebreak hand-tosses its dough daily, with pies that walk the line between classic East Coast style and a heartier Virginia spin. Favorites include the “Hot Honey,” loaded with cup pepperoni and ricotta, and the “Soprano,” topped with meatballs, Virginia ham, spicy sausage, and classic pepperoni. Pair a slice with one of over 30 beers on tap, and you’ll understand why this place keeps topping local “Best Of” lists.
Shorebreak has earned its accolades, too. Many locals argue the wings deserve as much acclaim as the pizza (and our readers’ choice poll has proven that yet again), and the burgers hold their own against any bar in town. But at the end of the day, it’s the pies that put this place on the map.
Not only do the folks at Shorebreak cut up some amazing dough, they also work hard to give back to the community. Their mission is to be a community hub, support local schools, and create a welcoming atmosphere where folks can connect with friends and family.
In a city with no shortage of pizza joints, Shorebreak has managed to balance consistency, creativity, and community in a way that few others can match. If Virginia Beach has a go-to pizza landmark, this is it.
