Marianne Burke, PhD
Marianne K. Burke, PhD, is a co-founder and board member of 4 Public Education. Also, she is Chair of the Education Working Group for the Virginia Grassroots Coalition and a mother of three graduates from Virginia public schools and universities. She is a retired research scientist who held positions in several federal agencies, a university and a non-profit organization. Between her undergraduate and graduate education she served as a Peace Corps volunteer in a developing country where she planned and implemented environmental education components of the country's public school curriculum. While on a special assignment on Capitol Hill, she developed an appreciation for how ordinary Americans can influence our laws. Since then, she has been an advocate for legislation and policies that support democratic values and principles, including those that impact public education. She is experienced in the Virginia legislative process and leads 4 Public Education’s legislative initiatives.
