Virginia Beach is a haven for retirees, whether they be residents or vacationers. With its beautiful beaches, pristine boardwalk, and unique attractions, it has plenty to offer those of all ages. For those reasons, it should come as no surprise that Virginia Beach was named a top 10 beach town for retirees a decade ago by CBS News.
Luckily, plenty of Virginia Beach establishments recognize just how popular the destination is among seniors. Here are some of the best discounts on hotels and attractions for the 55+ crowd.
Hotels
Those looking to find a good deal on hotel rooms while visiting should check out AARP’s list of oceanfront hotels that offer discounts to members. Here are a few of our favorites:
Sandcastle Resort on the Beach
Sandcastle Resort on the Beach is one of the many hotels that are listed as offering AARP discounts. “At Sandcastle Resort, we believe that a great vacation is all about having fun and creating memories with your loved ones,” the resort said. “Located right on the beach, our resort offers the perfect combination of relaxation and fun.”

The Schooner Inn
The Schooner Inn is another hotel that offers AARP discounts. “Our location is ideal in that we are on the south-end of the Oceanfront with spectacular views of the boardwalk, the extra wide beach out front, Rudee Inlet to the south and west and with the Atlantic Ocean, this hotel is truly a unique destination,” the inn said. Ask for a “King Whirlpool” room, which features an in-room hot tub and wet bar.
The Founders Inn and Spa
The Founders Inn and Spa is a good option for vacationers looking to avoid the hustle and bustle of the Oceanfront. Located 16 miles from the waterfront, it sits on 26 acres that are shared with Regent University. A relaxing afternoon can be spent in the Flowering Almond Spa. Be sure to look for the senior discount when booking your room.
Attractions
The Adventure Park at Virginia Aquarium
Active seniors will likely enjoy a trip to the Adventure Park at Virginia Aquarium, which offers 15% off general admission tickets for visitors who are 55+ if they use the promo code “SENIOR15.”
The park allows visitors to experience an “adventure in the trees.” It bills itself as different from traditional rope courses, given that it has a unique offering of “aerial trails.”

Rudee Tours
Rudee Tours at Rudee Inlet offers a special senior rate for those who are 65+. The senior rates start at $25 and go up to $33, depending on the tour.
There are five options for those looking to observe wildlife in their native habit, including “Dolphin Watching,” “Rudee Rocket Dolphin Trip,” “22-Hour Pelagic Wildlife Exploration,” “13-Hour Pelagic Wildlife Exploration” and “Sea Turtle Safari.” Its dolphin and whale-watching boats have multi-level decks, climate-controlled cabins, and 360-degree views even when inside.
“A dolphin watching cruise with us is the essential trip for both the aquatic enthusiast and the fun-seeking vacationer,” the company said. Sightings are guaranteed. “Each 90-minute experience is narrated by our experts who are ready to share their knowledge and answer your questions about dolphins, other marine life, and the Virginia Beach coastline.”
Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center
Seniors 65+ get into the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center for the special rate of $24.95.
The aquarium is home to thousands of animals, as well as numerous hands-on exhibits that can be experienced through self-guided tours. Check out the Norfolk Canyon Aquarium for a look at the large variety of shark species, including the sandbar sharks, sand tiger sharks, and nurse sharks.
Military Aviation Museum
The Military Aviation Museum gives seniors who are 65+ and are interested in learning about the heroes who built, flew, and maintained America’s military aircraft a special $15 rate.
The current exhibits focus on bomber jackets, WWII combat photographer Leander P. Zwick, Jr., the birth of combat aviation, and so-called Vengeance Weapons. The museum also includes an extensive collection of various WWI and WWII aircraft.

Beach Cinema Alehouse
Seniors looking to enjoy the latest flick will be delighted to hear that Beach Cinema Alehouse offers a special $9 senior rate for those 62+. While watching a film, enjoy the wide selection of food and drink options. The alehouse serves appetizers, pizza, salads, sandwiches, popcorn, beer, wine and cocktails.
Little Theatre of Virginia Beach
If live entertainment is more your style, enjoy a show at the Little Theatre of Virginia Beach. The theatre stages a range of plays and musicals each year. Conveniently located a couple of blocks from the Oceanfront, it’s easily accessible for tourists. Unlike some entertainment venues in frequent tourist destinations, the theatre showcases all local talent. Senior rates for tickets range between $17-$20, depending on the show.

Food
While most restaurants in Virginia Beach don’t publicize whether they offer senior rates, it doesn’t hurt to ask. Check out the Visit Virginia Beach website for a listing of some of the top local eateries.
