Burgers are an American classic, and when you want to chow down on this satisfying meal, there are so many considerations. Should it be a true classic, or should there be a level of creativity and ingenuity behind it? It’s a tough call, so we turned to our readers. We asked our readers to vote in the first annual 2025 Virginia Beach Food Guide and they showed up to tell us about their favorite burger places. Let’s get started with the four best burger places in Virginia Beach, as decided on by our readers.
4. Monk’s Place
Coming in fourth place is Monk’s Place. They’re a catch-all when it comes to American classics, serving up pizza, burgers, and barbeque. Obviously, their burgers do not disappoint, hence their place on this list. And when we say American classics, that’s exactly how they serve up their burgers. Monk’s cheeseburger is the quintessential cheeseburger—nothing fussy about it. Their handmade burger is served up on a brioche bun with melted cheese, lettuce, pickles, tomato, ketchup, mayo, and mustard.
3. Barrel 17
Barrel 17 is our third place winner, and they have humble goals: to provide high quality American classics in an artsy, vibey joint. Their Jammin Goat Burger is award winning, and it comes with wagyu beef, arugula, red chili pepper aioli, jalapeno bacon jam, and goat cheese. If that’s not your speed, rest assured. They have plenty of options, everything ranging from the basic cheeseburger to other creative masterpieces that might be less adventurous. In short, Barrel 17 is deserving of the bronze.
2. Craft Burger Bar
Craft Burger Bar put up a good fight, sliding into second place and snatching up the silver. Craft Burger Bar proudly serves up wagyu burgers in all varieties. Their most popular burgers are the Whiskey, Willie Nelson, and the Habanero Firecracker. If you’re not afraid of a little heat, the Habanero Firecracker might be the perfect challenge for you. However, if you’d like to play it safe, the Whiskey and Willie Nelson are respectively tame. Craft Burger Bar lives up to the hype—and its name–serving tasty and inventive burgers.
1. 1608 Crafthouse
The pièce de résistance, the winner of our best burger list, is 1608 Crafthouse. Focused on delivering local and sustainable products, this farm-to-table restaurant features Southern cuisine with a Chesapeake Bay twist. Although 1608 Crafthouse isn’t solely serving up burgers, their Lamb and Mushroom burger is what everyone is talking about. Border Springs Lamb and curry sauce make up this unique burger take and the reviews keep coming. Don’t miss out on the best burger joint in Virginia Beach.
