The Virginia Beach Food Guide: The best Mexican restaurants of 2025

By Dogwood Staff

September 2, 2025

The best Mexican restaurants are often quiet, unassuming spots with a dedicated fan-base. The frequent visitor to a Mexican restaurant has a tried and true dish they’re married to and no matter which restaurant they visit, they’ll order that same dish. When that’s the case, it’s clear that Mexican food connoisseurs know which restaurant has the best Mexican food.

So, we turned to our readers and asked them to vote in the first annual 2025 Virginia Beach Food Guide. We asked them to tell us the best Mexican restaurants, and the votes are in—with four clear winners.

4.  Taqueria La Patrona

Taqueira La Patrona is our fourth place winner, and that’s nothing to scoff at. This little taco shop has four locations, so they clearly know what they’re doing. And their margaritas receive high praise. Margaritas aside, their birria tacos are the real winner. Not feeling a taco? Try the birria ramen instead. That same rich, delicious birria broth is used on noodles instead and it doesn’t disappoint. The rest of the menu is authentic and delicious, so it’s no wonder people voted on this Mexican spot as one of the best in Virginia Beach.

3. No. 1 Taco

With a name like No. 1 Taco, it’s easy to imagine it as a winner. They might not be number #1 on our list, but third place wins the bronze, and that’s no small feat. No. 1 Taco brings West Coast Latin inspired dishes to the East Coast where they’re all about merging delicious food with convenience. Their weekly specials are all about finding ways to be creative. Not only are their tortillas warm, soft, and amazing, their burritos filled to the brim with delicious ingredients, and the carne asada fries a reminder to swap tortilla chips for fries EVERY SINGLE TIME, their agua frescas are immensely refreshing. Especially on a hot day on the beach. In other words, No. 1 Taco will hit the spot.

2. Taqueria La Hacienda

The silver goes to Taqueira La Hacienda, a family-owned authentic taqueria that has been open since 2013. By merging the traditional taqueria with West Coast flair, Taqueria La Hacienda prides itself on serving up authentic food. Being a coastal taco shop, you can imagine that their fish tacos are of the utmost quality. Patrons \ brag about the fish tacos being some of the best they’ve ever had. Even if fish tacos aren’t your thing, the selection of authentic Mexican food leaves you with plenty of options to enjoy.

1. Las Palmas Mexican Restaurant

The gold, our number one winner, is Las Palmas Mexican Restaurant. Las Palmas first opened in 2010, and since then, it has expanded to eight locations. Eight! Las Palmas is owned and operated by brothers Javier and Vicente Ibarra, and patrons can’t get enough of the food AND service. Both are exceptional. They serve up a refreshing margarita, and their menu is expansive, yet refined. Las Palmas is the perfect spot for birthday parties or family get-togethers and the food does not disappoint. The steak fajitas and carne asada fries are the real winners here.
