“Virginia is one of three states that permanently strips certain citizens of their right to vote — it is in our constitution.” During an interview with CNN, Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger continued to push for voting rights reform in the state, specifically the removal of provisions that permanently strip certain citizens of their right to vote. Spanberger recently announced that under her leadership 100,000 formerly incarcerated Virginians have had their voting rights restored. The announcement comes as Virginians prepare to vote on a ballot measure in November that could automatically restore voting rights to people upon release from incarceration.
