Virginia teen sounds alarm over data center pollution in Chesterfield County

Virginia residents, including local high school students, confronted the environmental concerns surrounding Chesterfield County’s growing data center industry during a public forum at Brightpoint Community College. With up to nine data center projects planned, built or under construction, residents pressed representatives from Google, Dominion Energy and Chirisa about air pollution, water use, electricity demand and oversight. The meeting also addressed environmental violations at Google’s Project Peanut construction site and the company’s use of nondisclosure agreements. Google said it would stop seeking NDAs except in very limited circumstances.
