From finding furry friends at the Lynchburg Humane Society to enjoying a meal at Milan Indian Restaurant, there are plenty of ways to spend an epic day in the City of Seven Hills.

Here’s what you need to know: Situated in the rolling hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains along the banks of the James River, Lynchburg is a city where culture, history, and natural beauty collide.
Our top picks:
-
Lynchburg’s thriving arts scene can best be experienced through a visit to the Academy Center of the Arts, where a seemingly endless supply of performances and exhibits is available for enjoyment. The center includes a black box theatre, a gallery building, and a music theatre.
-
A visit to the Hill City AquaZoo is sure to leave you with a sense of awe and wonder. Home to hundreds of animals, including those that roam dry land and the sea. A few of the animals include a Savannah monitor named Chonk, an Asian dragon moray eel named Frank, and a Bennett’s wallaby named Eve.
-
Enjoy year-round skiing, snowboarding, sledding, and tubing at Liberty Mountain Snowflex Centre. It uses Snowflex, a surface that replicates snow. Equipment can be rented from the center. Instructors are also available to teach you how to navigate the slopes.

In 1613, Pocahontas was forcibly taken by English colonists and held for ransom. Her first husband, Kocoum, was slain by the abductors.
Historical accounts reveal that both Pocahontas and her father, Chief Powhatan, fell into a deep depression after her capture. The colonists repeatedly lied to the teenager, saying that her father didn’t love her.
Following a staged ransom exchange—during which fighting broke out and ended the negotiations—Pocahontas converted to Christianity and adopted the English name “Rebecca.”
