Virginia man seeks $35M after ICE left him with brain bleed

It started with a walk to the bus stop. José Mejía Hernandez says he was heading to work around 6 a.m. in Arlington when two men in plain clothes approached him. His attorneys say they didn’t initially identify themselves as federal agents, Mejía Hernandez ran because he was scared, and minutes later he was on the ground. He ultimately woke up in a hospital with a brain bleed and other injuries. Now, nearly two months later, his attorneys are seeking $35 million in damages from the federal government over the ICE encounter. They say the money represents what Mejía Hernandez has lost since that morning — including his ability to work, sleep normally and live the life he had before.
