Here’s what you need to know: A shared post, a quick mention, or a forwarded link can be the reason someone finds shelter on a night when the temperature drops lower than they can bear.

Three regional options:

• City of Alexandria’s Winter Shelter

  Daily from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

• Inclement Weather Shelter
  1900 Chamberlayne Ave., Richmond
  Daily from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m.
• MHC Warming Center
  603 Memorial Blvd., Martinsville
  Open 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. in temperatures below 40 degrees

Layne, a student in Virginia, couldn’t wait to show off his Jamestown project—and for good reason! Drawing inspiration from the famous John Smith quote, “If you don’t work, you don’t eat,” he built his entire school project around the theme of hard work and survival in the early colony.

But what really set his work apart was his creativity. Instead of stopping at a traditional model, Layne took his project to the next level by designing a full 3-D Jamestown fort, complete with John Smith tending to farm animals. His attention to detail and imaginative approach brought history off the page and into the real world.

Amazing job, Layne—your creativity truly went above and beyond.
