Let me tell you a little story: Back in 2021, Dogwood’s newsletter was taking an unplanned nap. We had a loyal, but small, group of around 2,000 readers. That’s when I stepped in to shake things up. We started slowly, sending out a once-a-week update filled with news and stories we knew mattered to Virginians. Then we bumped it up to three times a week. And now? We’re in your inbox every weekday, Monday through Friday. Today, we’ve grown to more than 35,000 subscribers (and counting!), and I couldn’t be prouder of this incredible community.
So, what can you expect from Dogwood’s flagship newsletter? I like to call it a bright spot in your inbox. Sure, you’ll get the latest Virginia headlines—from education updates and economic shifts to big conversations around reproductive rights—but you’ll also find the good stuff: The quirky events happening in your town, the festivals you didn’t know you needed to check out, and the must-try restaurants popping up across the state.
My approach is simple: Promote the positive. Life is heavy enough. That’s why I make sure that every edition of the newsletter has something uplifting, inspiring, or just plain fun. Whether it’s a guide to the top secret beaches for a serene evening or a roundup of Virginia-made craft beers, there’s always something worth sharing with a friend.
